NVSUA new candidate classes will be held on:

These classes will help you prepare for the ASA Umpire Exam. New candidates are to attend all classes and general board meetings.
All first and second year umpires are strongly encouraged to attend the new candidate classes.

2013 Umpire Board Meeting
The annual Umpire Board Meeting and Breakfast will meet at the Montvale Plaza in Stoneham on Saturday March 2 2013 at 9:00 am with registration starting at 8:00 am.

Sliding Rule
To All:
We’d like to clarify a rule in ASA play. There is NO REQUIREMENT to either slide, or that head first sliding constitutes an out (or ejection). The ASA rule book is very clear and easily read in terms of our rules. We also have over 40 pages devoted just to player safety as well. Please take a few moments to read your team or umpire rule book to clearly understand this rule.

ASA National Umpire School
Due to the continued growth of Amateur Softball Association (ASA) softball programs, the need continues to develop qualified ASA umpires. The ASA umpire program is among the nation's largest officiating organizations with over 35,000 officials actively involved each year. ASA officials are nationally recognized as the best trained and proficient in the sport and are involved in competition starting with league play, city, state and national championships.
The ASA annually hosts local, state and national umpire clinics which literally blanket the nation and bring the best instruction available in the sport to every region. Over the last decade, the Amateur Softball Association's umpire program has become an innovator in the production of quality training materials. When a clinic is not available - videos, books, slides and other instructional materials allow instruction to continue.
The ASA website (http://www.softball.org/umpires/index.asp) serves as your source for all the ASA umpire news including rule changes, umpire schools, umpire equipment, ASA medals programs and the ASA Indicator Fraternity.
An ASA umpire is certified to umpire ASA softball games at various levels. The Massachusetts ASA umpire development program has a focus in two areas; Adult umpires and Junior Olympic umpires. The Massachusetts ASA Junior Olympic umpire program focuses on local leagues and encourages Junior Olympic umpires to become future members of adult umpire association. Ultimately, it is a means of allowing individuals to support their community by being active in youth activities. In both the programs annual re-certification is a requirement.
Insurance for the ASA umpire is by far the best for any sport or organization and includes a $5,000,000 liability policy, an accidental injury policy with maximum benefit of $100,000 for any accidental injury arising out of the amateur softball activities (including clinics and schools), and games, leagues, and tournaments involving ASA registered teams. The medical expense coverage is provided on an excess basis. It also includes an accidental death and dismemberment policy, as well as a dental coverage that will pay the actual expense incurred for treatments to sound and natural teeth, with a $500 limit for each individual tooth.
